What do the letters behind the name of a real estate agent for? Real estate agents, doctors, lawyers and other professional designations of ear, certifications and other credentials. These are usually shown by putting a series of initials after the name of the agent. The Common designations and certifications include: Broker, Realtor, e-Pro, CHMS, GRI, ABR, and CRS.
What does an agent have to do to get the declaration or certification?
E-Pro requires an agent to take a class on basic computer skills. It has no real estate content, but ensures your agent can use email and the Web. I really should be a minimum bar for fitness technology its agent.
REALTOR is one of the easiest to obtain credentials (but one of the most difficult to match). A REALTOR is a real estate agent which belongs to the National Association of REALTORS and is committed to follow the Realtor Code of Ethics. You can read about that in here http://www.realtor.org/mempolweb.nsf/pages/Code?OpenDocument
Broker is a little harder to get that REALTOR. In Texas, for example, an agent's license should be able to operate his own property company roots. An agent's license must have 2 years and complete over 600 hours of real estate education before applying for a broker's license. The broker license is granted following an examination administered by the State. Brokers are basically real estate agents with advanced education.
GRI means Graduate Realtor Institute. Less than 50% of agents have this designation. The GRI requires 12 days of continuing education with passing grades in three tests. No production or time requirements for an agent can literally earn this designation by sitting in class for 12 days and passing the tests. This designation is by no means a measure of the true experience of selling goods.
ABR Accredited Buyer's Representative means. Less than 30% agents have this designation. This designation is combined 2-day classroom work and a review with the requirement that the evidence shows agent at least five sales Buyer. This designation indicates that the agent has taken so long formal classroom and field experience.
CRS is for Certified Residential Specialist. Less than 4% of all agents have this designation. This is more difficult to obtain designation and is a measure of a high degree of formal education and experience real-world transaction. To obtain a CRS, the agent must attend three classes of 2-day pass three exams and a test of 25 transactions closed in the past 24 months. While the experience of operation is not a huge amount, not eliminate agents and weeds inexperienced class agents who are not dedicated to continuing the education.
Other designations are out there, but mostly they are issued by groups inconsequential and have no real impact the capabilities of the agent and are used more for marketing purposes than anything else.
