PEI an island province in the east coast of Canada, known for its red soil and heroin Island Anne of Green Gables, is largely unknown to many Canadians. This was evident in a recent television program in which a business person seeking capital PEI some of the wealth of Canadian investors and Majority allowed by the panel that had never been to PEI. Let me take you there and show that the economy of this province on the island, the most Canadian small.

There are 5 main components of the island's economy, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, forestry and manufacturing, although the first 3 greatly outweigh the latter two manufacturing is increasing.

Agricultural activities in PEI include production potatoes, the performance of dairy herds, cattle and pigs, and some soft fruit and orchard. Recently, the hog processing plant was closed and the beef plant in Borden has had some hard times as financial restructuring and its future is uncertain. There has been talk of the 3 Maritime provinces working together to create a processing plant healthy beef, however this has not come to fruition. Face of agriculture across the country, and apparently always has been, in a process so that their survival is not surprising that problems exist in Prince Edward Island.

Fishing is another economic activity only Maritime including the capture of lobster, crab, herring, cod and cultivation of clams, oysters and trout. About half of the lobster fishery is PEI. Fishing is closely controlled by the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and quotas on the amount of any product that can be harvested. Lobster prices have taken a heavy beating in recent years and there is a plan in place to repurchase a number of lobster licenses and reduce the number of traps that will serve the dual purpose reduce pressure on lobster stocks and balance supply and demand. It is hoped that this could result in better prices.

Tourism is the second largest industry in the province. Our population of approximately 140,000 PEI increases to more than one million in the peak periods due to the influx of tourists and summer residents. It is very popular with the other Canadian and New England for a summer home here on Prince Edward Island PEI and the price of real estate is very reasonable when compared with other areas. Most tourists come from Atlantic Canada, with a large number of Quebec and Ontario and the states of New England. PEI is also very popular with the Japanese, however we have visitors from all over the world.

Forestry is an industry that is evident here, as in BC. The forests are smaller and are most valued by its concentration of hardwood. However, there is still a thriving industry of forests here on the Island Prince Edward.

Manufacturing is growing on the island, and specialized service industries such as aerospace. There are, of course, manufacturing industry concentrated around fishing, fish processing products, as well as forestry and wood products, but they are increasingly more high-tech companies and traditional ones, such as chemicals, transportation and metal products.

PEI is a great place to live and work and there are jobs had in the PEI. It is a safe place to raise a family, a less expensive place to retire because down "Local> PEI real estate values and a place to put your money to work. Anyone looking for a place to relocate or invest, it would advisable to consider PEI.
